Northeast Los Angeles Holiday Parade December 7

Norkyneparade

The 64th Northeast Los Angeles Holiday Parade will officially bring in the holiday season on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 1 p.m. The city's second oldest annual holiday parade has become a great attraction for entertainers and audience alike!

The list of parade participants has multiplied in the past two years, offering more marching bands, drill teams, dancers, musicians, floats, equestrian units, celebrities and community representatives, including the many elected officials who serve the Northeast L.A. communities. As in year's past, Saint Nickolas has already confirmed his visit to Northeast L.A.  and will be accepting letters from children as part of the Holiday celebration.

Lots for the kids! Including the Parade Ambassador of Peace through Literacy - NORKY the Hybrid Peneagle from the North Pole.  NORKY who can talk, entertain and dance is a Magical new Bird Species (part penguin - part eagle) who can also swim & fly. Santa appointed NORKY as the "Official Mailbird" of the North Pole.  He originally came to the Northeast Los Angeles Parade in 2007 promoting literacy and peace through his first book "Christmas with NORKY the Adventure Begins..." written by Steve Allgeier.

The City's second oldest holiday parade is presented by the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce with the support of the Office of the Mayor of L.A.,  Assemblymember Kevin de Leon, City Council Districts CD 1 and CD 14,  the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, MetroLink, Coca Cola and numerous local businesses and organizations.

The parade will proceed from North Figueroa Street and Avenue 60, southbound to Sycamore Grove Park where WinterFest activities continue from 2-5 pm, Carnival rides, live music by music students from Ramona Hall and the announcement of the award winning Parade entries by Chamber V.P. Max Vasquez. Accessible by the Metro Rail Gold Line, the parade also introduces visitors to the Northeast area's cultural and historic facilities and unique shopping experience.  For more information or to volunteer please call parade producer, Rosamaria Marquez at (323) 635-9125 or Highland Park Chamber of Commerce President Yolanda Nogueira (323) 256-3151 or visit http://holidayparadeinnortheastla.com

DISCOVER NORTHEAST LOS ANGELES

The historic, eclectic and diverse communities of Northeast Los Angeles grew from the gentle valley and hillsides along the Arroyo Seco, stretching in between Downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena.

Discover Northeast Los Angeles

The neighborhoods are now cross-cultural and dynamic, but much of their character can traced to Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Arts and Crafts Movement celebrated individualism, creativity and pride of craftsmanship as a rebuttal to the Industrial Revolution , and as a counterpoint to Victorian formality.

The spirit of the Arts and Crafts Movement continues today as a vital and thriving Arts Community rooted in Northeast Los Angeles.
