Saturday, February 14, In celebration of Valentine's Day Bob Taylor Properties, Inc. will be hosting "AMORES CLANDESTINOS" An Art Exhibit in our Office Lobby 7:00PM -- 10:00pm, 5526 North Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

WITH LIVE MUSIC by acclaimed Americana/Blues guitarist CARLOS GUITARLOS...

Los Angeles Times says: ". . .The technique is unmistakably sophisticated: chords and melody played simultaneously, the way Chet Atkins might have done. An old gravelly blues voice, perfectly cracked, effortlessly in tune, pours from the slumped singer. The truthfulness of the voice commands you to listen. . ."

LA Weekly says: "If you're going to name yourself Carlos Guitarlos, you'd better make sure you're a damned good guitarist. So good, in fact, that you can play anywhere, out on the streets or in a fancy concert hall, with the uncanny ability to pull from memory just about any blues-rock classic and, on top of that, play it in a style that's uniquely your own. And then, somehow, you should also be so good that you can write and sing dozens of your own originals, in all manner of genres, from bewitchingly sad ballads and deft Beatles-like pop structures to ragingly dirty blues and Latin soul. --Falling James"

Curated by Rafael Matais, "AMORES CLANDESTINOS" is a beautiful and eclectic collection of wood, bead, ceramic tile and other fine art by local and international artists Rafael Matais, Anne Marie Price, Story Drops, Robert Markey, Phillipe Vignal Mosaics (Paris), Silvia Almatesta (Argentina), Peter Tovar, Dave Matke, Leonardo Ibanez Valenzuela.

Jonny Whiteside says: "They don't call him Guitarlos for nothing--the cat wields his ax with flabbergasting skill, a mix of sophisticated technique and sheer musicality that allows him to employ a long-range artistic reach spanning a spectrum of impressive breadth, depth and height.

Technically, Guitarlos is unrivaled--he's capable of playing melody, an intricate bass line and beating out hot percussion all at once, creating a full-blown sound that positively dazzles. With a bottomless repertoire that demonstrates an intimate knowledge of almost every vernacular American music form, he also delivers it in a wildly idiosyncratic fashion that is as undeniably authentic as the hard-knock life he's led.

Famed for his early 80s stint with legendary blues-shockers Top Jimmy & the Rhythm Pigs, a Los Angeles club phenomenon whose tore-down sound easily matched punk rock's primitive kick (the band was immortalized in Van Halen's unabashed tribute "Top Jimmy & the Rhythm Pigs").

Carlos too became something of a legend--an impudent, unpredictable character as rowdy and volatile as one of his thunderous solos (and one of his most famous fuck ups was refusing to let David Lee Roth cover one of his songs). By the late 90′s, he hit bottom as a street singer and nearly died from congestive heart failure, but the unstoppable drive of this raggedy genius prevailed; he returned to form and kicked everyone in the pants with his outstanding 2003 album Straight from the Heart. Carlos' current CD, Hell Can Wait, is just as high-voltage, and when he hits the bandstand, watch out. (Jonny Whiteside")

Countdown to Eagle Rock Music Festival October 2: Bonne Musique Zydeco

Eagle Rock Music Festival, Saturday, October 2, 4:00PM to 11:00PM

"Musicians perform at eleven unique venues ranging from auto shops to formal stages to historical buildings, and even a motel balcony along Colorado Boulevard."

Bonne Musique Zydeco stakes their claim each year on the balcony of the Eagle Rock Welcome Inn Motel.

"Bonne Musique Zydeco (BMZ), literally "good zydeco music," is a 6-member band specializing in the Creole music of Louisiana and east Texas. BMZ draws upon the style of traditional Cajun and Creole musicians, and the influences of the blues and New Orleans artists of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s to create a blend of music designed for dancing.  Zydeco is a mix of rock ’n roll, blues, Caribbean and R&B music. But it’s not rock ’n roll or blues music, it’s zydeco. "

This year, Free the Robots will appear on Low End Theory Stage (located near The Coffee Table Bistro)

"Chris Alfaro is Free the Robots. The genre-defying artist pulls together heavy doses of traditional jazz, psych, electronic and hip-hop, with progressive melodies and devastating drums into a rich pot of sound. His techniques create harmony between genres with the blending of obscure samples with analog and digital compositions."
