Saturday, February 14, In celebration of Valentine's Day Bob Taylor Properties, Inc. will be hosting "AMORES CLANDESTINOS" An Art Exhibit in our Office Lobby 7:00PM -- 10:00pm, 5526 North Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

WITH LIVE MUSIC by acclaimed Americana/Blues guitarist CARLOS GUITARLOS...

Los Angeles Times says: ". . .The technique is unmistakably sophisticated: chords and melody played simultaneously, the way Chet Atkins might have done. An old gravelly blues voice, perfectly cracked, effortlessly in tune, pours from the slumped singer. The truthfulness of the voice commands you to listen. . ."

LA Weekly says: "If you're going to name yourself Carlos Guitarlos, you'd better make sure you're a damned good guitarist. So good, in fact, that you can play anywhere, out on the streets or in a fancy concert hall, with the uncanny ability to pull from memory just about any blues-rock classic and, on top of that, play it in a style that's uniquely your own. And then, somehow, you should also be so good that you can write and sing dozens of your own originals, in all manner of genres, from bewitchingly sad ballads and deft Beatles-like pop structures to ragingly dirty blues and Latin soul. --Falling James"

Curated by Rafael Matais, "AMORES CLANDESTINOS" is a beautiful and eclectic collection of wood, bead, ceramic tile and other fine art by local and international artists Rafael Matais, Anne Marie Price, Story Drops, Robert Markey, Phillipe Vignal Mosaics (Paris), Silvia Almatesta (Argentina), Peter Tovar, Dave Matke, Leonardo Ibanez Valenzuela.

The Annex Presents:  Pages from a Bahía Diary

Images and text by J. Michael Walker.  Selected from a field of over 500 artists worldwide, J Michael Walker was one of seven chosen by the Sacatar Foundation to spend January-February 2011 on the jungle island of Itaparica, in Bahía, Brazil. Here, in the land of candomblé, under gorgeous skies and amid palpable spirits, he immersed himself in the local community, embraced by its warm, generous people.  Avenue 50 is proud to present the first public viewing of J Michael's impressions: the drawings, writings and photographs that record the strength, beauty, and soulfulness of Itaparica and its inhabitants.

**The featured photo is a piece by assemblage artist Armando Arreola which will be presented at Avenue 50 Studio during its February exhibition, Circulo "Magico/Magical Circus" .

Opening Night Reception:  Saturday, February 12, 2011 from 7-11 pm

“I have always wanted to be a magician.  These small theaters allow me to play that role.”

The Avenue 50 Studio is proud to present its February exhibition, Circulo Magico/Magical Circus by assemblage artist Armando Arreola.  With material obsession, Armando Arreola creates small diorama theater scenes of magicians at work.  Among the 14 theaters, we see the sword swallower, the lady being sawed in half, and the woman levitated over fire– while the small audience delights in the magic of the magician.  We are drawn into the tiny magical world of Armando Arreola.  He obviously delights in assembling his dioramas (and probably smiles or laughs while creating them).  All would be upbeat, except for one factor:  smudged faces with matted hair adorns each participant. We’ve walked into Arreola’s slightly dark world – not bloody, not violent – a Ray Bradbury novel-like world. There is magic here, as we play voyeur peering through side windows, or from the top of the theater.  But isn’t that what originally a circus was supposed to be?  Strange, mysterious, other worldly.  Circulo Magico is actually very charming.  The children will love it, and so will adults.
